HHM or Todd or mymymy would you please let me know if there's anything I can do to remove myself as a co-signer for my husband's student loan? We just filed BK this month and even after the filing and my husband still jobless, I still don't have enough money to cover the monthly expenses with the loan included (negative $207). Out of the $100K student loan, $30K was used for his personal expenses (credit card bills, food, rent while away in school). I was hoping that the $30K would be discharged since it wasn't used for school, but the lawyer said that woulndn't be possible. He was able to defer payment until August this year. I made a very big mistake of co-signing for him, but as his wife, I thought, who else would co-sign but me? We have a toddler, and I would like to re-build my credit as soon as possible. However, my husband not having a job, the school will go after me. I had a very good credit and that's how my husband managed to be approved on this loan. But now that I filed for bankruptcy, is there a way that I can be removed and put the financial responsibility on hime alone? I would appreciate any advice given.
