Can I surrender my vehicle now before converting to a 7?

We are currently in a chap 13 and have been for 2 1/2 years. Its just gotten to the point that it is too much for us. Poverty level living is higher than this. The fridge is alway empty, cars empty, we never do anything and I think the marriage is about gone. So to save the marriage we are going to convert to a chap 7 in may. However we have 2 vehicles in question. The one in particular is a 97 windstar. Just recently I have had to pour money into it to get it fixed. Well, last Sunday it got worse and I believe that the intake manifold gasket is busted, head might be blown. Anyway it is not drivable. Im borrowing a car until June to find a cheap one. We have full coverage on the van for insurance. Can we turn in the van now, stop the full coverage insurance and then proceed into the seven later? I can't afford to get it fixed, especially if we are gonna turn it in later. Also, I have another vehicle. Can I reaffirm that into a chap 7? My son is driving it. I appreciate your response. Haven't been on here for about a year. thanks

I surrendered my vehicle in May and converted in October, so it shouldn't be an issue. The deficiency is still included in BK.
