robivi3 07-06-2005, 02:28 PM What is everyones opinion on the "exit door policy" at most stores. At Sams Club and Costco I believe it comes with the membership, so I'll concede them.
This morning at Brandsmart the guard actually stood in front of us as we were leaving and naturally i handed him my bag and reciept which he stamped. My son also had a purchase so i turned to him a nd said "prepare to have your rights violated", the guard gave me an incredulous look.
I don't know about all of you but I'm getting tired of having my rights violated by a bunch of dubious looking, low IQ (and they are, I don't care if anyone disagrees) characters who've probably never heard of the 4th Amendment and probably couldn't read it unless it was in their native tongue. I am sympathetic to loss at stores but we should not all be treated as thieves. I complained to Brandsmart before but never got a response. At Walmart I generally just walk by them and one "exit lady" chased me out the door and touched my arm at which point I delivered a nice (no cursing or loud offensive tone) speech to her about her chances of being sued at this point, she backed down and leaves me alone now.
Well, I think you are over-reacting a bit. I agree, I think its a rude tactic that stores employ, but I think its a bit of hyperbole to say its a violation of your rights? (but yes, the WalMart lady should not have laid her hand on you).
robivi3 07-06-2005, 04:54 PM Well, just throwin' a little dirt but didn't want to get into the eminent domain discussion, that's to depressing... I read the Majority and Minority opinions on that. I'm glad sandra stood on the right side in her last days.
I like to throw a little political hogwash around for those I encounter in public to see reaction, though this issue does really bother me to a point. In Burlington Coat Factory the other day the AC was not working. Now this is at sawgrass Mills in Ft. lauderdale (Sunrise). heat index about 99 in the shade, humidity over 90%. When I came to the register the clerk, customers and all were complaing. I asked them rather loudly, "Why is everyone complaining? No one wants to fight to secure the oil supply! Now we're really putting our money where our mouth is! If you don't have a secure supply this is the result, so get used to it, it's what many of you are protesting for. I think it's great that we can finally seperate the true eco sensitive anti war folks from the fair weather ones". By not operating the AC Burlington was not releasing flourocarbons and were conserving oil thus taking us back to nature.
I work in a government entity where the left can spout its views in the lunch room, on the bulletin boards (TWU) yes I'm a member, and even hold rallies if it matches the Counties Agenda but where conservatives are supposed to go along. A goodly group of us has been talking back and venting the frustration more vocally for the last ten years and i guess that is where my attitude comes from on certain issues. I work in a VERY left of center environment.
Nikki28 07-06-2005, 06:04 PM Well the door people are just doing thier jobs they are not to blame. But heres what I find odd at our sams club they have a guy in a wheelchair doing this which is great he has a job but what can he do if he needs to chase you or the little old ladies at walmart how will they chase down a thief like say a young kid or something thats what I find a little bit odd.
Lightning 07-06-2005, 07:28 PM It seems like a really ridiculous thing to get upset about. What does it have to do with bankruptcy? The store is trying to minimize loss. That translates into lower costs for you. I don't mind showing my receipt to anyone. I never steal anything.
If you don't like the store's practices, don't shop there.
Tatetytiffany 07-06-2005, 08:36 PM I totally agree with rob. I was stopped at sams club because I had one more item then showed on the receipt. I told the bozo it was from a package of pictures that did not develop so there was no charge he didnt beleive me and had to call over the manager. The manager had a couple of brains rolled her eyes and told me sorry go ahead. Lighting says shop somewhere else. You can't. Almost all of the stores have those electronic gizmos that scan your stuff when you walk out the door. I have seen these things go off many times and never once was a theft in progress. You all will change your minds :D when they start frisking you when you leave the store. When I first realized I must file bankruptcy I felt somewhat uneasy about getting stuff from these places and not paying for it. No more I only wished I would have rung up a bigger bill. They are about 1 thing. MAKING MONEY never lose sight of that. Remember Walmart had to take out a full page add in the USA Today for a couple of days because they were screwing there employees and they were afraid of bad publicity. If an employee had touched me on the arm or any where else I would have decked them and waited for the cops. For the guy in a wheel chair he can get a job as the famous Walmart greeter.
Have a nice day and a successfull Chapter 7 or 13.
Yes I was really bored and blowing off some steam.
copper2 07-06-2005, 10:33 PM Ha ha ha! Thanks for the good laugh. (Makin' money......!!).
robivi3 07-07-2005, 12:09 PM Lightning, since I've been around here fer a "lawnnnng" time and was present when this Category was formed I can tell you that this category has not one thing to do with Bankruptcy. In fact BK posts in this category are removed since it says... "everything non BK related". This category is for yapping, cutting up and venting and talking to one another.
In other words... letting loose! :clapping: :D
tinroofrusted 07-07-2005, 01:16 PM All I have to say, is don't stake your whole career in a Walmart or a Costco! ;) You will see the brain cells deplete rapidly........
I had a girlfriend of mine go into Walmart one time to get some new pants. (She was pregnant with her first baby.) She had walked in in a pair of bib overalls. She tried on two pairs of materinity pants, bought them, and then went to leave the store. A store manager stopped her and raised holy hell claiming that she saw my friend put on the bibs and try to walk out with them on, etc. etc. When my friend calmly explained to the lady that she wore those in there, the lady went beserk and called the police. After three hours there, she was given an apology and a gift certificate, and the woman was let go from her position. They ended up reviewing the security tapes when you first walk in there.... crazy people.

YOU GO ROBIVI3............
YOU ARE RIGHT - This is the "chattin and ventin" corner.
And I agree with you about some of the Walmart stuff. I irritates me when I'm looking at the label on a can of soup, and somebody is standing further down "watching" to see if I'm gonna stick it in my purse.
If I was going to "steal" I wouldn't be out working myself to death everyday for 40 years.
And if our society didn't make it so hard for seniors to survive, they wouldn't be at Walmart, working as greeters. Many pay for their meds that way....SHAME...........
Although, I am glad that Walmart does employee seniors. McDonalds does too. If some of them couldn't find employment somewhere parttime - they would do without the meds they need.
MANY are not "ready" to sit on the porch......
Me I'm not sitting down, waiting to die, I've got some living to do yet!!
Oops.............is this the BK forum, can I say all this, DUH........

While I think it's great that they hire seniors, I am worried about our young people not knowing the value of a dollar because they are unable to find part time jobs....
Something needs to give! :)
And don't get me started on these old people driving on our roads!
Minnymouth 07-08-2005, 05:35 AM Tinroofrusted,
Yep I agree on the kids not knowing the value of a dollar...some never will as long as good Ole Mom and Dad keep supporting them.
I see kids 30 and 40 years old that won't work, still sucking mom and dad dry. (Course I blame the parents for this). Course these are not "kid"s anymore - their "family bums".....
I believe in "helping and advising" your kids when things get rough for them. That's what "parents" do....
But your kids need to know "how to take care of themselves". Can you die and "know" your kids are self sufficient and will survive?
The part about seniors "moving over" and letting the kids work parttime.........well, a lot of kids just won't work. They want to call in sick, goof off, set their "own" hours, and pick ad choose what job they want to do.
DUH - HELLO REAL WORLD.....
My nephew had trouble keeping a job and asked his dad why no one wanted to hire him??? His dad told him "GEE, I GUESS YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, HUH!!!!
Don't get me wrong, there are some great kids out there. They are go-getters who have their heads on straight and know what they want in life. But many are very undecisive about the real world.
Parents give them everything, then at 18 want them to "make it on their own"............how can they??? They know nothing about the value of a dollar!! How hard its earned, how far it will go, and what is most important in life -such as everyday survival...
If most of these kids "would work" - they would have all the jobs they could handle. Companies wouldn't feel that they have to hire seniors as dependable, experienced employees to get the work done.
How many "kids" do you know, that would work as a "door greeter" at Walmart? Yeah, Sure!!
As for the "seniors on the road" comment.....Well, I'm not ready to give up my wheels just yet. I'm only 56.........
But yes, I feel that their comes a time when some of them need to let someone else do the driving. They become careless, and dangerous to themselves and everyone else.
It's just as hard to "give up your independence" when your older as it is to "find it" when your young.
Well, now that I'm thru "venting" I will SHUT UP.........
So much for the "quirks" in our lives!!!
Minny

I'm with Robivi on this one . . . it's getting out of hand.
Sometimes we have little choice but to go to Kmart.
After we've made our purchases, we have to stop at the door and let the guard stamp the receipt. (I assume this is so I can't go back in and get exactly the same items all over again—as though I have the time and the inclination to do that.)
It's annoying and it tells every single customer--customers who have just made purchases--that they are suspect.
We have drastically decreased our shopping at Kmart for this reason.
It's one thing to have electronic sensors on everything . . . it's quite another thing to be stopped on leaving when you've done nothing other than give the store your hard-earned money.
I think it's important for the store management to know that these policies are discouraging their honest, paying customers from shopping there. No wonder Kmart was in Ch. 11.
We used to spend about $75-100 at Kmart every 2 weeks; we'd get all our basics there. Now we spend less than $50 in 6 months . . . and it's not just because we're filing for Ch. 7.
robivi3 07-17-2005, 07:46 AM Well,
I just got home from Crossville, Tennessee and can tell you that there are absolutely no exit door people at the Kmart or Walmart there. There were no buzzers, buzz throughs or anything like it. What a beautiful and peaceful place. i've got a stake there now though and a short time 'til retirement!
I also got a ticket in the City there (the area is rural but in City limits and i was flying to say the least). I went to the PD to ask for dates for the driving class since i would have to come back in order to have the ticket stay off my record. The Captain gave me the class right there! This is the nicest, most decent "work it out" town I ever encountered. The entire process of closing, zoning, checking, photographing was just a gentlemanly handshake. These people have a practical, fiscally responsible NON-BEARUCRATIC mentality that makes the community desirable. It also makes the high taxes bearable as they have the idea that Government serves you, unlike my current County/City residence which is fast becoming a goofball, FUBAR'd, LITERAL Banana Republic where the smallest act is the biggest deal. God save us from the effects of unrestrained immigration.
