I know they can reopen your case up to a year but is it a year from the date you file or is it a year from the date you are discharged?

Your case can be closed right after discharge if everything goes well.
But also the Trustee has the right to file to re-open your case up to one year after discharge if he finds "something" that warrants re-opening it.
Most cases are never re-opened after discharge and close of case.
