We may (keyword: "may") have an opportunity to move to another part of our state this next year (about 5 hours by car from where we live now).
Is this a good idea? We wouldn't go unless the offer was substantially higher (20%+) than our current salary here.
We'd have to either sell or rent our home here. Would we be able to purchase another home? What about renting? Do renters have problems getting contracts due to BK?
I realize that if we got a substantial pay raise, the trustee would want some of that, but what about the rest...?
Right now we have a 1st and 2nd mortgage on our home (2nd was an attempt to consolidate previous loans--done a few years ago and is 1/3 paid off) These combined payments equal 1/2 our incoming wages a month. THis is one reason why we are in this situation, coupled with both myself and spouse having major surgery in 2007 with some serious complications, lost work, reduced to part-time...and serious medical bills. This put us over and into 13.
Of course we will discuss with our attorney if this looks like it may happen, but I wanted to get your opinions first.
