    Surrendering Property-Rooms to Go/Citi

I have some bedroom furniture for my child from Rooms to Go that I financed through Citi. I do not want to reaffirm b/c it is $2500. I have not made payments on it since they came due last year. It was one of those no interest no payment things, and when I bought it, I had full intention of paying for it. I am prepared to buy my daughter new furniture at Ikea with cash b/c I do not want to take on the payments. It was stupid of me to buy that in the first place.

Anyway, does anyone know what the chances are that they will actually come and get the furniture? It is 3 years-old. I am trying to figure out if I should go ahead and buy her the new furniture or if I should wait it out to see if they take it.

I would wait - I can't imagine they'd take it. We have a tv that we bought from circuit city 2 years ago - they tried to get us to reaffirm but we did not. I asked on this board and others and everyone's OPINION was that they most likely will not try to come get it - Credit cards are unsecured debt - and if the furniture is 3 years old......I'd just wait - but set aside money if you can or just be sure that you can get new furniture for you daughter right away if you need to - just so you do't stress about it. Maybe someone else can chime in on this....

A few years ago I bought a washer dryer from circuit city. I got behind on the payments and they were calling close to every day. Finally I told them I'm doing the best I can as I am looking for a better job. They said I should just take the washer dryer back. I said if you want it then come get it! They were shocked! I said I'm tired of you hounding me about this. I have told you we are trying the best we can and if it's not good enough come get the dam things. They didn't bother me again.

That's hilarious...So I guess that was before you filed that they were calling you? Did they try to come get it after you filed? Or was it paid for my then?

I wonder if anyone who has had to surrender furniture has ever given their child a black Sharpie and told them to color pretty pictures on the furniture??? JUST KIDDING!! I know it's a totally evil thought, and I would NEVER do that in a million years, but the thought still popped in momentarily. Seriously though, I actually HATE the thought of having furniture that I have not paid for. Most of our debt is medical and living off of credit cards with meds, gas, groceries. I'm going to feel pretty guilty if they don't take it.

why continue speaking with them? Why not talk to them maybe twice and let them get the answer machine when they called back daily?

I understand this. I had one creditor that would call 10 times a day, but if I answered them when they called at 8:15am (exactally EVERYDAY) everyday and explain to them that I still dont have the money they wouldn't call again that day. Since we filed thats probally been the most joyful part, that phone not ringing off the hook. Especially when you have teenagers and you really dont want them to get the same worry you already have about money.
