    Few questions about filing

I have a couple questions about filing ch7 - I im currently involved in a civil lawsuit with a company over a copywright infringment issue (long story). Most likely they are going to get a default judgement in court against me and because I can barely afford to pay a lawyer over this issue let alone pay a judgement (probaly in the area of 75k btw) I will need to file. I guess my question is, would a civil issue like this one be dischargeable under ch7?

Also I have another question about the new law coming into effect. I read that in order to file ch7 your income has to be under the state median. Is the state median the same for a single person as it is for say a 4 person family? I only make about 23k a year so my thoughts are that I would probably be exempt but I thought I would ask.

    Thanks...

File before they get a default judgement against you, then they will have to get permission from the bankruptcy court to continue the lawsuit(which is rarely granted). Once you get a judgement against you it becomes a little more difficult.

Thanks for the answer - Right now I am wating to hear if they are going to accept my settlement offer. Otherwise I will file.

Anyone know the answer to my other question? Is the median differant for single people than it is married? Just curious, because if this thing gets carried out past October I would like to get a feel with what I'm dealing with.

      Thanks...
