hello i recently ordered some computer and stuff from hd . i spent 800 in feb 600 in march and 1000 in april . i am awaiting a ssi hearing and thought i might make a little money on ebay or something . but my wife just got laided off . how long before we could safely file chap 7 . we owe 4000 in cc thanks

You can safely wait for a while actually. Personally if you are both unemployed and have no real property your pretty much judgement proof, and they can't take SSI.

For 4k I'd wait it out a few months and see what happens. I'd get an answering machine though. Turn the ringer off. Make sure the message clearly identifies you and let it answer the phone. Return the calls of those you want to talk to or use caller ID before picking the phone up.

4k is not a lot even if your unemployed and it might be better to wait a bit and see what happens. (Remember a chapter 7 is only once every ten years )

I'm thinking it stays on your report for 10 years now, but it might be 8 I could be wrong.
