I posted earlier about our car being repoed. The repoe man said we have 30 days to "pay it" and get the car back-does this mean we gave to pay the full balance owed on the car or just the payments/fees we were behind on?
Also, if we file Chapter 13 before that 30 days will that save the car? We are going to file Chapt 13 anyway just not for a few more months. If filing in the next 30 days will get us the car back, then we'll file now.
I honestly would tell them to keep the car and sell it at auction if my mother in law weren't a co-signer.

Going into a Ch. 13, you have to figure that you will be on a payment plan for awhile. During that time you may not have much (if any) discretionary money. A couple of good questions to ask yourself are:
1) How much do you owe verses how much have you already paid into the car?
2) If the car is in good working order...ie, is it worth saving?
3) Can you and hubby get to work riding together, or is that 2nd car a necessity? If one car breaks down how will you both get to work?
4) If you let this one go, your credit is likely already damaged and the terms of trying to finance something else will cost you dearly, if you can get approved at all. Then comes the whole "no new credit within 90 days of filing for BK" rule...

As much as you could care less about getting his car back, really think about the long term effects of not keeping it. Not to mention your MIL...
