    Foreclosure timeline in CT?

    Hello All,

I have a friend in foreclosure with Countrywide. He stopped paying the mortgage a year ago, tried to do a work-out, didn't happen, has had job loss and has now given up the fight. He is currently still living in the house.

He initially answered the foreclosure appearance and didn't hear anything back from the courts. He has been in contact with Countrywide many times and they have never been able to give him the auction date, just telling him that they're buried in foreclosures and way behind schedule.

So this Sunday his name appears in the local paper with an auction date of 5/17. They also put a sign on his property on Monday. Other than that he has not received any information or notification of when he's expected to vacate the property.

Does anyone know when he needs to be out? Clearly it is soon, but does he have 30 days after the auction? Or does he have to be out on the auction date? I did a google search and it says that in CT you are supposed to be notified by certified mail, but he has never received anything. But, the problem could be because there is no mail service where he lives, only a p.o. box. He hasn't gotten anything in the p.o. box, but perhaps they don't have the number?

He is a single parent and has known he needs to move, but he's worried that they're going to throw him out on the 17th and he can't get a rent until 6/1.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what my attorney said when I asked him about timelines, signs, etc:

    1. First of all, until the property is sold, it is still your friend's house. Therefore, no one can put a sign up, or stickers on the windows, without his permission. He should take the sign down.
    2. After the auction takes place, there is still a bit of time that passes until the ownership is transferred officially (with title work and all of that).

I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like your friend should be ok for the couple of weeks until he moves into his rental on 6/1. There are lawyers that specialize in foreclosure processes. He should arrange for a free consultation and ask about his timeline.

I completely agree with you, Sivuh's friend has some time enough to move to a rental home...
