I tried messaging you but thought you might see this 1st,.. I am in PA, Southern PA . My hubby and I have to file BK. I am a wreck. I could really use your help.

Hang in there. I have been there also. I have 4 kids ages 11 and under. We hit rock bottomw on Christmas Eve when we got notice of suit from Am. Ex. And were getting phone calls all day long. The sooner you get an attny. the better. I cannot tell you how much relief I felt just after filing. The phone calls stopped - the lawsuits were put on hold and I felt safe again. It has been a long road but I am almost at the end (60 days is up ttomorrow) but it has not been easy. I don't know your situation but whatever you need- ask for advice here - I have posted a lot of questions that I thought were stupid and they may have been, but they were answered anyway - or even if I did not get the answer I needed I got support knowing others have been where I was! We need sites like this where we can get support b/c most of don't have anyone else to talk to! I am not going to talk to my family and neighbors and freinds about this stuff! You need the help and support of people who have been here. So welcome - start reading, posting, and good luck! And remember to keep your head up - take control of your situation however you need to.

Its awful I can't eat or sleep. My hubby got paid Thursday and I have no money, as we did not decide to claim BK until a few days ago, and I was afraid of not paying the credit cards. As we were getting all those, and I paid those and now I have no money. I am scared out of my mind with so much. how we are goingto be able to take care of our son. How we are going to be able to take care of the lawyer. Ugh!

We are wanting to claim chapter 7 but I have a feeling it may be 13 as our take home is a few thousand over. I am just so thankful for the support on this board. It has been great.

I am lucky to have the support of my parents but they live 8 hours away! Its hard Ilost my best friend to cancer in 1995, and I have no friends. UGH!

That is good that your parents are a support. We would not have gotten through thiif not for my mom in law. She gave us the money for a lawyer. We will pay her back one day but she is financially stable so there is no rush - we are just working on gettin gback on our feet. If you hae talked with attny's or researched enough to know that you will file pretty soon - whether it is 7 or 13 - then stop paying the cc's. I know that is scary but i fyou know you will file that is wasted money. It will be a month before you start getting phone calls. We did not pay our at all for 3 months and the phone calls got really bad after the 2nd skipped payment.
If you think there might be another way out- - well then - it just depends on your situation. If you have a home you want to keep and will be able to do that pay that first. take care of food and utilities - maybe the money you save not paying the cc's can go to an attny. I am so sorry you lost your friend and feel like you have noone - I have friends but nobody I can share this with. We live in a nice neighborhood - nice area - I suspect there are others going through the same thing but noboody would dare talk about it. I don't really care who knows or what they think - it's my life - But I won't talk to anyone b/c they would not understand or help.
Anyway - I forget if you said you have talked to a lawyer yet - If you don't have one yet - talk to several - I never found one I loved and I have not really liked ours - He has no "bed side manner" and is not great with answering our questions - but after talking to a few we felt like he knew what he was doing and owuld get the job done. We paid 1500.00 - It varies by region though. Run your numbers and stuff by a few and see if you can get an idea if you may pass the means and be able to do a 7. Our income is high but we have 4 kids so we were just under the median. It all dpends on so many factors so you will just have to feel your way through.
Sorry if I have rambled here - Try to have a plan and take peace in that. My hubbie and I both were awake at night with panic attacks over all this - It was all I could think about day and night and worrying about my kids and what if we had to move etc. - It seriously nearly drove me nuts. But once we made the decison and filed I had such a sense of peace and relieg. Still a lot of stress but at least we had a plan for a better life. Count what blessings you have and know that this is temporary - Hopefully we all learn from this and go on to a better rest of our lives! My discharge - when I get it - will not be the end of a journey but a beginning! Good luck - hang in there!

Hey Christine, I am truly sorry for your situation. Please know that you are not alone. Many of us are going through very trying times right now and it is nice to have this board to bounce questions, concerns, and even vents off of.

Do some searches on this board for the things that most trouble you and you will have many of your questions answered without even having to ask them. And post all you want.

Christine, we felt the same way. No money to live on after paying cc. You may be surprised that if you quit paying cc you might actually have some cash left, we did. Not alot, but much better then before. We are able, barely, but able to take care of the kids and ourselves.

Give a few attorneys a call and go in for a free consultation. See more then one, get some advice. You can make payments to the attorney and get this ball rolling. They can advise which chapter you can qualify for. You just need to take a deep breath and know you're not alone. There are alot of us here who felt like you do right now.
