Question about a trip/adventure before filing for bk

I have a question for folks here.

I am planning to file for bk in July. There's an adventure trip I'd like to go on in late June. It'll cost about $500-700 for the weekend trip.

I would not use credit cards for this. I would probably take the money from a small investment fund I have--I have $3K in it now (it's not a 401K). If I do this a few weeks before filing, would I be courting disaster? Would it weaken my case for a chapter 7? I qualify for the first part at least of the means test. My income is below state median.

By the way, this $3K comes from an 8k cash advance I took on a credit card in October 2007. (Most of the rest was used to fund intensive counseling for a self-destructive disorder, a disorder that really pushed me into this trouble in the first place.) I made 5 payments on the cash advance and stopped paying in April.

My attorney thinks he can protect my $3K investment under exemptions and wild cards. Don't know if that's relevant or not.

    Thanks ahead of time.

I'd avoid any extravagant vacation. I mean if you want to take a small vacation that would probably be acceptable. I'd stay in the most economical hotel and eat at economical places.

You'll have to turn in a bank statement so yes the Trustee may notice the expenditure and question it.

I'd be prepared to show what you spent the cash advance on though in case the credit card company objects. Its been long enough they probably won't, but best to be prepared .
