Tax returns. How far back do they want?

Simple question, how many years back do you have to furnish your tax returns? If I were to file tomorrow, would my 2004 tax return be sufficient?

If I am unable to find mine, can the trustee just go in and get it?

It depends on the trustee as to how may tax returns she/he wants you to furnish but at the very least I would think they would want 2004. No they wont go get it - you will have to find a way to produce your copy. Did someone file your return for you? They should have a copy. Trust me you want to produce what they want. We werent able to initially and now we have to produce even more documentation so avoid that pitfall. They are more understanding if they ask for a lot of documents and for some reason you werent able to give them some of them but you have to give them something. Good luck...

Typically you should be prepared to supply your last two years of IRS Tax Returns.

Generally, trustees will accept the summary printouts you can get from the IRS.
