We were discharged in March 2005. It now appears we have to reopen to have a lien avoided under 522(f). What is the process for re-opening and how long does it usually take. Is there a procedure for re-opening and then filing to avoid the lien or is the process all together? How long does it take to file a motion to avoid a lien. We are in Calif. Thank you.

You didn't say if you filed yourself or with a lawyer???
If you filed yourself and unsure of what to do, contact a lawyer to help you. Your case will have to be re-opened!
The process is simple I'm sure, just certain papers have to be filed. A adversary complaint will have to be filed I believe to avoid the lien.
I had a lien avoided in my case, but my case was still open at the time.
Talk to your lawyer if you have one.
Good Luck

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
