    Job and DOD clearance

    Hi, all.

Just wondering if anyone knows or has experience if filing Chapter 13 will keep me from getting a DOD clearance?

I have an opportunity for an exceptional job, but there will need ot be a clearance and i'm worried.

Also, I don't know if I should tell or not tell about it.

    thanks.

    Minny here,
It will probably ask on your DOD papers if you have claimed BK, most DOD papers do. Best answer it yes, because they will check anyways. A govt clearance is very extensive, I've been there, done it. That is a job where there are "no secrets".......they will check everything!!
If you hide it - they find out - then yes you could have a problem.
I don't believe it will hurt you though...shouldn't.
Govt jobs aren't based on information like regular jobs are. They are aware that people have BK, divorces, etc.

Your BK will probably be over before your clearance is done and finished.

You have the "right" to claim BK and the govt does not hold it against you.

Good luck on the job - hope you get it!!

      Don't lie

To get a security clearance you will be asked that question, don't lie! If you do and are found out you won't be off any better. I would asked the question up front or call OPM and ask. Is it a firefighter position?

        Thanks, guys.

        No, not a firefighter position...legal

Minny, are you saying it will take over two years to get it finished? We're in Chapter 13.

          DOD Clearance

I work for the treasury and my BK did not have any bearing on my promotion. The government is only concerned when you have IRS back tax and you are filing BK which includes any tax owed

Sorry, I must have been asleep when I answered you, was thinking you were in Chapter 7. HELLO, wake up girl, huh!!!
BK shouldn't have anything to do with your job, just don't try to cover it up. List it on the paperwork, if asked about it explain your reason for filing. That's about all they'll ask unless there is back taxes involved.
            But you should be okay.
            Good Luck,
            Minny

              Hi!

I am also going through a security clearance (Q-PSAP) and a BK at the same time for a job with the government.

I was told that if the only thing on your record is the BK everything should be okay. Having a BK and DUII or arrest is "eye brow raising" to the investigators.
