    Foreclosure in CA

Has anyone had experience with how long foreclosure is taking in California?
How many months from Notice of Default?
I know it depends somewhat on the mortgage company.. but I wanted to get some feedback from someone who has recently had this happen.. and hopefully in CA.
    Thank you so much.

well, I got behind 4 payments before a NOD. The payments were not all in a row, I missed one, made two, missed one, like that. Anyway, they sent me the NOD in June, the same day I sent them a payment. The amount to cure did not include the payment, and I think they are just sitting on it. I received another letter last week, stating the house would go back to HUD, it was an FHA loan, "probably" in October. The "estimated" auction date is Sept 18. Also, the letter stated I could still live in the house if certain conditions were met and I was willing to pay rent to HUD. I already moved, but still have a little stuff left over there. I go by every couple days and get some stuff. I think in my case, because of the loan type and the seriously depressed value as well as the number of other foreclosures in the area, they probably would let me live there for free. They don't seem to be moving with any great speed.
So, in total, about 6 months missed payments and still not even a firm sale date.
    This is in Bakersfield,CA

Thank you for your input. I'm not sure I know much about HUD...
I've never heard that you must pay rent during "foreclosure"....

stopped making the payment since Jan'08. Received a sale date notice a week back for 9/22.

took 9 months and 22 days. if it doesn't sell in auction, it might take another 2-8 weeks.
12/31/08: Filed for ch 13. (FICO: 605 as of 1/5/09, 648 as of July 2010). 02/11/09: 341 mtg. Plan confirmed for $200 per month for 36 months... (20 down 16 left)

There are actually companies that will work with you for free to buy your mortgage away from your mortgage company and avoid your foreclosure. I would advise looking into this first. Try http://www.speedyrealestate.info. Good luck!
