    Auto insurance

Our auto insurance will be up for renewal in November. Could they increase my rate because of the bankruptcy?

I've been with AllState for 20 years. Never paid late, never had an accident...basically been a perfect client.

    Could they do this?

They can, but probably won't, with your history. Our friends with State Farm had the policy for seven years before filing their BK. Their rate actually dropped a few dollars upon renewal after the BK. I doubt that was from them filing. They don't know why it changed, but it didn't increase.

    Good luck!

I'm with AAA right now, but I'm looking at switching to progressive at the end of this month. Has anyone had any issues with Progressive and BK?

'Hub and I are with Allstate, and so far we haven't detected any rate changes due to the BK.

I would like to explore options with other insurers to see if we can get better rates, but we have a 20 year history with Allstate, with only 2 minor claims in that time and 'Hub doesn't want to change.

I have been with State farm for 15 years. I haven;t seen if they are going to raise my rates yet, but I think they will because I saw an inquiriy on my credit from them in July.

Never had an accident, no claims, no ticets, never paid late...

I've been with Allstate at least as long as you have and in years past I had the best rates they offered and couldn't beat them anywhere. I've had no accidents and no tickets but I did have a new vehicle stolen and Allstate paid out enough money on that one claim to essentially refund every penny I had paid them for the previous 20+ years and my rates still stayed the same.

I hadn't filed at the time my policy renewed and you can see my credit scores in my signature.

            THEY RAISED MY PREMIUMS 50%!

Your policy is underwritten for a whole year at a time so any changes in your status won't change until the year is up. They also seem to check on you every two or maybe three years and your rates won't change much between times when they pull your credit report.

The strange part is how I could get TEN TIMES more coverage everywhere else I checked for less than I was paying BEFORE the rates increased.

Needless to say, Allstate lost a long-time customer! Thank God my big claim was beyond the period most companies look back at for determining risk.
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

I've been shopping around for insurance... the quotes I am getting for full coverage on 2 cars is thousands of dollars for 6 months. I hope my current provider doesn't pull an updated report... I'm around $700 for 6 months.

I just changed auto insurance from Farmers (which I've been with since 1984) to The Hartford..Altho I havent filed anything yet and wont be able to for a good long while, I guess I got lucky. My credit was still good a few weeks ago and I got a great rate with better coverage. My rate is over 100 lower a year now its 880.a year not bad..

OMG, I will be so pissed if they raise my rates over this. It has nothing to do with them. AT ALL.
