Filed...When is online access denied?

Hello everyone...My wife and I filed BK7 last Tuesday and our attorney told us that the 341 meeting should be within 40 days. Following much good advice, we did not reaffirm our mortgage. Our mortgage is an 80/20, with 80% with Countrywide and 20% with national city.

I know that many people say that they are unable to pay online after filing, but what is the typical time frame that my access would be shut down? And how soon can you regain access? I pay everything online and it looks like it is time to invest in some stamps.

For us it was about 1-2 weeks before online access was shut off.

It was more than a month for me, but I filed the day after a month's worth of payments cleared (to get that balance down), so it was probably just a timing thing.

I think someone here mentioned the difference between paying your bills online via the creditor's site and paying them via your own bank's online bill paying gizmo. I'd never considered that difference, but it does make sense, since if you're initiating the payment, the creditor can't be accused of violating the stay by billing you.

Am I remembering/understanding this correctly?

I bank through Bank of America and I know they have online bill pay. However, I never use it. I just go to the websites of all my bills and pay them there. Would I be able to make payments via online bill pay? Thanks for the quick replies.

Me, too...although at a local bank. I'll be watching with you for replies.

Or maybe I'll just get off my duff and TRY IT...
