Wow!!!!!!!! I am glad to say its finally over! I have to say I think this process has taken years off my life, I can't say how many nights I went without any sleep over this. Its been a tremendous amount of stress and humble pie.
Before this bk, we had perfect credit for over 20 yrs. But thanks to medical bills and restructuring at my place of employment, we started borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. We were using our CC's for our monthly living expenses that we were coming up short on. We had over $70,000 in CC debt. I also had a motorcycle that I owed over $5000 on.
I Really have to say that even with all the nights that I was up, totally sick from this, that it went so smoothly that it unbelievable. My wife and I still can't believe that its over.
Our 341 went smoothly, we had no objections from creditors. It really blowed our minds, most of our CC's had been transferred from one to another. One big one was, BOA - they offered us a $30,000 signature consolidation loan. We took it out last Sept. and transferred the money to other CC's. We had made all the payments up until this past May. We still can't believe that they didn't object, I'm sure they fill like they were the one's who got left holding the hot potato. None of our purchases were large or luxury items, no vacations either.
We are not bragging about this, and still feel very ashamed that we had to do this.
Our case has been closed for about a week now, and I can not believe how wonderful a fresh new start feels. It has been great just being able to pay our bills every week. So far, we have made great strides with our finances. Its so wonderful to be able to pay your bills and SAVE money away.
I am just writing this story to try to bring a little bit of peace of mind to others. Up until closure, I have been checking this site 2 to 3 times a day, just trying to gather all the information that I could.
The biggest help that I received from this site was, "Make sure you talk to more than one attorney." The first attorney we talked with was a real rude butt! But we didn't know any different and would have went with her until I read the advice of others on here about talking with more than one attorney. When your dumb to this stuff, like we were, you just trust that they know what they are talking about and don't question them. The first lady said there was no way we could go chapter 7, she said we had to go chapter 13, and that our payment would be $800 to $900 a month for 5 years, and would have to give back a couple cars. She said if we even attempted to go chapter 7 that it would throw every red flag available and we would have every US trustee on our case. When we left my wife was literally crying from her rudeness.
The second attorney we met with said we could go chapter 7 no problems at all, and keep our vehicles. Now we didn't have anything that fancy, but we had 3 cars and 1 truck, all together worth about $15,000.
I didn't mean to drag on, I just want to wish all the rest of you Good Luck!
Lets all be diligent to never ever get in this mess again! I think we have learned to live with less, we must learn to live within our means and not our wants!
Good Luck to you all and thanks for the help!
