Filed a Ch 7 no asset case pro se yesterday and now I'm in the "hope I did the right thing" phase. Definitely, filing was the right thing but I question the form preparation, timing, etc. I answered everything honestly so at least there shouldn't be any repercussions from that.
I'm planning to reaffirm the house and car. I have a little negative equity in both but since I can't really get credit now and certainly not at a decent rate I'm going forward. Neither my house nor car are extravagant and I'd pay as much in rent as the mortgage payment so that's the plan at the moment.
The petition seemed to be satisfactory for submission. I neglected to submit Pay Advices or a Statement in Lieu so I have two weeks to get that in.
The bankruptcy clerk gave me a preprinted list of documents that the trustee will need at least 7 days before the 341 meeting. In my case it'll be 2 years of tax returns and 4 months of bank statements (the three months prior to filing and then the statement that includes the filing date.) Oops, addon. Need to provide the legal description and signature page from the mortgage to the house as well as a copy of the deed. They also want some evidence of the value of the house. I'm including appraisals from 7/2008 and 4/2007.
My only real addition to the forum at this point is that I used an online petition preparation service that wasn't terribly impressive. I did a little research and found that all of the online services I found were very likely related entities so while the websites look a little different it's probable that the back-end/engines are the same. Also, they did not support the form to pay the filing fee in installments claiming that it was a patently bad idea. Perhaps it is but it's what I needed to do so I downloaded the form from the court and used it. Using the old 20/20 hindsight I'd probably just have bought the Nolo Ch 7 book and either used one of the bits of software available or filled out the PDFs from the bankruptcy court.
I don't have any particular question or particularly brilliant insight today. Just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for the great info on here.
