Here's my situation.
I'm a Massachusetts resident. I am under the median income for my state. I do not own any real property or a car. I have about $12k in personal property, a lot of which is not in any salable condition (digital camera that would not sell for anywhere near the replacement value, etc.) and much of which will be covered by federal exemption.
I'm a smart lady. I picked up the NOLO book. Should I go ahead with filing myself or get a lawyer?
One of the things I'm concerned about is the automatic stay. The sooner that could happen, the better. As I understand it, when you obtain a lawyer they do not proceed with filing until you have paid them in full. So should I put up with the collection calls and chance being taken to court for my overdue personal loan while paying for a lawyer or take a chance in filing for myself?
Thanks!
Christina
