The primary reason for the drop in Oil Prices is that speculators are leaving the market. Many Hedge Funds completed their yearly cycle the last week of September. Since then they have been selling off assets as many investors are wanting their money out of the market.

I do fear that it will sink as an issue because we really need to become energy independent, without being energy independent we cannot fully rebuild a stable economy.

Oil speculators and corporate "big oil" and associate greed is what pushed gas prices extremely high; all of the explanations that were presented about years of increased global demand was basically a load of garbage. While gas prices are still to high, they will most likely continue to drop do to the tanked global ecomony and the possible change in presidency. Energy independence isn't going to help keep prices low either, because we will gauge ourselves with inflated energy prices too. lol

High gas prices started the economic downturn. While gas was trading as high as $160 a barrel and gas at the pumps was $4 a gallon they were raking in the dough, Gas is trading now less than half the price but its down around 20% at the pump even though the barrel price is less than half. They are even making more money now. Gas needs to get back to the $2 a gallon price.

I concur with this statement! Real Estate prices also need to continue to drop quite significantly in order for the US economy to start improving too. Yes, there will certainly be casualities do to this but...we technically got ourselves here in the first place.

To answer the question, YES! Cheap oil is a good thing

We still must be energy independent but with the economy in it's current state the cheap oil will really help us all at least for now.
