I was reading about this earlier and....ouch. The company I used to work for used DHL all the time and they were one of the most reliable and fastest carriers we used, sucks to see them pull out in light of what the future may bring.
As a secondary thought:

"I don't see the long-term future in this community for me as an insurance agent to be very rewarding," said Welch, who is leaving town.

This sums up what a great majority of people are going to have to accept as fact. If you get laid off, don't write off moving to another part of the country, it ain't bad everywhere. Our local economy is doing pretty good, unemployment is still low, houses are still being built and sold, and it's mostly business as usual.

More CNN/Fox yellow journalism instead of asking, what can we do? Happens to be CNN this time.
This company was making no money. It could not afford to stay in business. Why would they not close down?
This is a fact of our economy. Businesses making no money will shut down and lay off people.
Now is the time to put a good use to tax money.
Immediately invade this town with food stamps, unemployment funds, education for retooling people, job fairs to help establish employment again, and relocation expenses for those who need to move for a new job.
By all means, use my tax money wisely instead of wasting it all the time on senseless government programs that don't work.

I just wanted to say thank you for being so sympathetic to others. I live about 15 min from Wilmington. I have a sister in law that works there and my brother did until last year. I work at an e-commerce center and we are feeling it this year. Luckily things still SEEM to be ok. In August last year it was mandatory 50 hours and November started optional 60. We just started this week with an option of 50. We don't have near the temps we did last year. There is a large steel manufacturer in town that is rumored to be getting ready to lay people off again. GM is leaving the area too. My husband drives a truck locally and luckily things are still steady for him. We are just holding on tight and hoping things will stay okay for us. Stuffing those pennies in the jar.Originally posted by fltoo View PostMore CNN/Fox yellow journalism instead of asking, what can we do? Happens to be CNN this time.
