I have a call in to my attorney to get her advice on trying to negotiate a loan modification with Met Life, formerly First Horizon. Has anyone tried this with Met Life or spoken to Met Life? I will post my attorneys thoughts when I speak to them. I am getting ready to file BK11 and stripping off the 2nd, so I am not sure if Met will even talk to me....

What have you done to see if your attorney is even qualified to comment on negotiation for a loan modification?Originally posted by getmeoutofhere View PostI have a call in to my attorney to get her advice on trying to negotiate a loan modification with Met Life
We have a tendency, as consumers, to believe that just because they're licensed to practice law (and if you read the posts here, you can see that even that is a challenge for many), that they're somehow able to intelligently comment on matters of all sorts.
Unless your attorney has helped dozens of people to successfully arrange a loan modification outside of bankruptcy and they've remained in their homes long-term, then I would suggest you get pointers elsewhere.
I saw more of them in 2004, and hadn't dealt with them for quite some time until just recently. I'm working on one right now with them and they're quite inefficient and inept, as compared to some of the larger servicers. That said, we're making progress.Originally posted by getmeoutofhere View PostHas anyone tried this with Met Life or spoken to Met Life?
If you're BK is active right now, they may not want to speak with you unless you have written permission from your attorney. If you need to file BK, your numbers may not work for any assistance until you do so, although it's impossible to know that without seeing your financials.Originally posted by getmeoutofhere View PostI am getting ready to file BK11 and stripping off the 2nd, so I am not sure if Met will even talk to me....
Filing while in negotiations will usually terminate discussions, so if you need to file and you'd like to stay in your home, generally the thing to do is pick this issue back up once they've obtained relief.
