Question ... kinda out of the box

A few years ago, a house on the block behind me crept into foreclosure. I dont know the details - but I do in fact, know this. One day a big dumpster showed up in the driveway and some worker guys were throwing all of the families stuff out, the family outside crying and screaming and picking their stuff out of the dumpster, as it was being thrown in! The family was still living there at the time.

How does this happen? Can somebody buy your house due to delinquent taxes (Im 1 1/2 years behind), and evict you? I hadnt thought about this until last night. Since I havent paid my mortgage since August, havent paid taxes since 2007, am I in any danger of this happening to me? I havent received a foreclosure notice yet, I am very surprised. Im filing chapter 7 annnnyyyy day now. Paid my lawyer off last week and turned in all of my papers this past Thursday.

I don’t see how this could happen without due warning and a bailiff on site. I have seen apartments evict and place stuff on the streets, it does not stay there long. Sound too cruel to me.

About taxes. If you are not paying property taxes, your taxes are purchased in a lottery of up to 18% to redeem. People purchase these and they are called tax certificates. If one person buys three years worth, they have a right to bid for your house on the Courthouse steps. If someone else bids higher they must pay him the taxes for the three certificates with interest. If no one else bids, he can use the tax certificates as payment for the tax deed and you will loose your house for taxes. You will be forewarned however. ‘Hub
