Well, I'm done. I don't feel completely warm and fuzzy, but I don't feel completely panicked either.
Our trustee was good - tough, but good. I got to watch 5 or 6 people go before me, so that was also good. It amazed me how many people who were there had filed bk before. They seemed to get grilled a little more.
When my turn came I answered all the stock questions - name, address, did I sign the paperwork myself, etc. She asked if I had ever filed bk before and I said no. She then asked why I was filing on my own and not with my husband. I told her that since we'd never done anything like this before and the bulk of the debt was in my name that I'd decided to "take one for the team", so to speak.
She then started in on the family trust, but I knew she would so it wasn't a surprise. She knew it was a life trust but didn't have any of the actual trust documents - just an old letter from the trust when I got my initial inheritance and saying I was a member of the trust and the most recent statement. The attorney representing me helped to point out that if my cousin has any children I dont inherit anything. She looked at me and said she needed the trust documents. She could see I got a bit upset when I told her I gave them all to my attorney. She said I wasn't in trouble but she just needed the paperwork. The attorney pointed out that they didn't want to submit them unless they were asked for (which I totally get since I've worked for attorneys). She asked how I was related to the trust beneficiary and I told her that he was my cousin and my uncle, further explaining that his mother had given up custody so my grandmother took him in. She then asked what I had done with my part of the inheritance - $25k. I pointed out that I received it over 10 years ago. She looked back over the letter and said something to the effect of "Ah, okay. That's it."
And that was it.
Now here's the stupid thing that is really throwing me off my game. Everyone else got a "Good Luck" from her. No "good luck" for me!
Met my attorney outside, he said that's it - they just need to get the trust papers to her but she didnt need to see me again.
So there you have it.
I'll feel better when I see those words "Discharged" and "Closed".

EmmaPeel, you did good. I think the Attorney's "body language" told the whole story. The Trustee understood, and dismissed you as you are OK to go. Let's face it, 25K over 10 years isn't much. Not quite about 2K a year, nothing to be too upset about. Check PACER you just may be surprised to see you are on your way. Also Mgmtrnr You have Good Luck too.
