BTW, you might consider liquidating your "emergency fund" to exempt things you would need in the future. Food, blankets, possibly a camper for a place after you lose the house. All things that can be exempt. Otherwise it could be capitol to pay your creditors when you file 7. 'Hub

No- no pending judgements or garnishments. all my CC's are current, but my attorney has advised to stop paying on them and from what I read here I will know if there is about to be a judgement against me and can proceed to file.

Hub-as for liquidating my emergency fund, it was my understanding that the wildcard exemption of $20,000 in California can include anything, stocks, furniture, or cash. Why would I need to liquidate it if that $6,000 fell under that exemption?

You wouldn't. If it fits in the exemption amount, keep it as cash in the bank so you can use it in the future as you need it.
