I have a checking account with a credit union. I have no loans with them or anything that will directly affect them if I file chapter 7. I also have a HELOC, overdraft protection and a credit line all with a zero balances at the same CU. My question is when they find out about my BK will they close all these credit accounts? I also have most all of my credit cards and mortgage auto paid through this checking account as well as my paycheck direct deposited. Should I close my account at any point and what would prevent the credit card companies if I closed my checking account from trying to take money? If they did try to take from a closed account would that cause any problems with bank fees or overdraft charges or with Checksystems? Sorry for the multitude of questions but should I change my payroll to a paycard and then pay cash or money orders for everything? Does the trustee require me to keep all records if I have no checking account?

If you have no loans with the CU you should be fine. Tje line of credit will be closed when you file. all credit has to be included.
Some people on the forum think it si a good idea to open a new checking account and close the old one. I did not I went online and stopped the auto bill pay on all of my cards before i filed months before. Another thing i did was to cancel my debit card and asked for a new one. that stopped all the ones that used my debit card.
I had to give my lawyer 6 month of back bank statements and pay stubs it depends on your trustee.
I kept my checking accounts as is and i did owe that bank money they never touched it.
hope this helpsChapter 7 07/30/2008
