changed my phone number...is this a problem?

So my husband and I had service with Cingular and just decided to end it. We owed like 400 bucks and now since we ended it early it went up to almost 1000....yikes

We are with a new carrier who is cheaper. We tried to get our number automatically changed over but Cingular would not release it until we paid the 400.00 so we just had them changed...Up until that time we were getting lots of calls about late bills...mostly from mortgage company(we are letting the house go)

So now we have had 0 calls...I retained the lawyer but of course they cannot call him because they cannot call me. So is this ok? They have not started in on family yet. I really don't want them to. Do I need to go online and update our numbers?

Also--can we discharge the old cell phone bill and contract in the bk or is it to close to filing date(Feb 2nd)? We just had it cut off after Christmas and probably won't go to collections until March(if I am guessing)a

And this is a completely different question(sorry, did not want to take up more room on the board) about taxes. We are waiting for our W-2 and mortgage, student loan, bank account info to come in so we can file. I do not see any of it coming before we file.I really want to get the refund before we file. Is there anyway to file before we get all this info? This year has been crazy so not sure what all info I even need to get. Interest paid, income...and we cashed out our retirment but paid taxes on it when we cashed it out.

yes im in the same situation as you. I owe verizon like 400 bucks and can't pay it. i too am thinking of changing carriers and getting a new number when they turn my phone off. can i include the verizon bill in my bk?

I wouldnt worry about the collectors. They will just mail you more now.

Enjoy the little bit of peace and quiet you will get between now and the filing date. Make sure you provide your new number to your attorney.

Yes you can discharge the old cell phone bill in the BK. The account does not have to be in collections to discharge. In fact, you list all of your creditors on the petition - if something has gone to collections you list both the original creditor and the collections company and make a notation in the petition which creditor the collections company is collecting for...

The information you are talking about must be provided by Jan 31 by each company. Sometimes you can go online to each of your accounts and get the info early; however, that is usually not the case if you are behind in payments as many times on line access is cut off when you are in default. If you still have access to your accounts, DEFINATELY download all the info before you file. Once you file BK, all online access is cut off. I don't know how you can file your taxes without having this information. So it is not likely that you will be able to file BK by 2/2/09 if you want your tax refund before filing. Speak to an accountant - see what they can do for you.
