I filed chapter 7 bankruptcy on 9/13/05. 341 meeting is set for Oct. 14th. Some payday companies that are listed with the bk are trying to electronically debit my account after I notified them about my bk. I'm being charged lots of fees from my bank, plus I couldn't withdraw any of my paycheck(have direct deposit) until money was credited back. All my other checks I've written have cleared. Is it okay to open a checking account at another bank, and close this account before the 341 meeting?I've cancelled the direct deposit of my paycheck, should get regular check this Friday. My bank account was overdrawn because of this on the day I filed bankruptcy.

Well, from what I have heard before, it's best to change banks. Closing the account means the bank can't stiff you in fees anymore...And that's just what I have to do next week.

We opened up a new bank account during our BK process. In fact, we opened a checking account with the credit union that our van loan was with. We are keeping up with the payments, but did not reaffirm.

Anyway, I was concerned that they might not allow us the checking account because of the BK, but there were no problems.

Good luck!
