    CredXFix.com

Anyone use this to help keep an eye on your credit. It says they assist in monitoring and improving your credit. Helps you get free credit reports and remove errors and wrong info.... Also has personalized credit dispute letters... I was thinking about doing it.......

These type places can do no more than what you can do on your own. In fact, they can actually harm your score for checking your report too many times. You can get one free credit report from all three Credit B's so that is three reports a year. 'Hub

www.annualcreditreport.com will get you your free yearly credit reports from all three credit bureaus or just call the credit reporting agencies directly. I wouldn't use one of these sites who charge you and claim to help you monitor/fix your credit, they are a waste of time/money. The only good pay site out there used to be myfico.com (but I think equifax is not on there anymore...they used to have all three on their site). I used to use it a few years ago and really loved it. They have some good message boards too. Transunion has one too, but they use their own credit scoring system (not FICO) and is not as good. Since most companies go off of the fico score, it is better to use myfico.com

So when I check my report does it count against me. Because what I have learned is I need to check it often when we are discharged to make sure everything is reported right.... So I would have to pay like say myfico so I can keep an eye on it, right? I just don't want to ding it if I am checking...

I'm not sure how true this is, but I've always been told that checking your own credit report does not hurt you. It's the inquiries that others do that will harm you.

Checking your own credit report does not harm you...and the whole inquiry thing is overblown anyway, there is a lot of misinformation about how hard inquiries affect a persons credit report.

When you inquire for your own purposes (myfico, annualcredit report or the like) it is a soft inquiry. Alot of rental places also use a soft inquiry when you apply for an apartment (mine did..I asked, and I also saw on my report it wasn't a hard inquiry) Ditto wireless phones, utilities. (I also asked.)

It seems only when you apply for a real line of credit is it a hard inquiry.
Everything else seems to fall under the soft inquiry, so nobody ever sees it but you.
