Greetings.... four hours ago my attorney filed Ch. 7 for me. I work retail, make under 25 grand/year, have had my work hours cut, etc., etc. No use whining or making excuses here. Chapter 7 was the best thing to do in my circumstance and I have no regrets. I keep my home and it's mortgage and my old Subaru, but I officially and legally discharge my credit card debts, approx. $15,000.00.
I tried to work with the credit card companies, but they were not as flexible as I wanted or needed, so it's a done deal.
An aside: I obtained a Bank of America credit card at a very nice 5.9% rate, used it for two years and was LATE, not missing, but LATE one time. One time. The payment slipped under the seat of my car and I missed it. The next month the interest rate was 27.99%. I phoned BofA, begged and pleaded through three different phone talkers and got a reduced rate of 24%, with a late fee of a couple hundred dollars.
Whatever....it's all water under the bridge. I have a cute little wine glass sitting on my desk with four shredded credit cards in it--a testament and a reminder of how to handle my finances in the future. I have a debit card backed by a Credit Union, no gas cards, no Visa, no M/C, and will no longer buy on credit.
What's wrong with the American economy? Me. No buying on credit. No regrets. New beginnings.
