Rebuilding my credit

I have been fortunate enough to get into a first time homebuyers program the city of Washington, DC offers. One of the requirements to began to look for a home and a mortgage is to have a credit score with all three bureaus of no less then 585. My transunion is 610, experian 596, equifax 535. I have one credit card that i use from first premier bank and pay off in full every month. I have applied for a creidt card with Orchard bank. Still have not got a response. My goal is to be in my new home by Christmas of 2010. Can some one please give my some pointers on how to get my credit scores increased.
