Collections versus Lawsuit

I have had accounts go to collections for under $30.00. In terms of lawsuits, this is generally the last step taken. In my own experience, local creditors here handle their own small claims (under $7500 in Oregon,) but national creditors just keep re-assigning or sell the debt. I live in the middle of nowhere, so any attempt to sue me in my county small claims or circuit court can be spendy for any outside party. I've been sued within 120 days, but I also have national creditors/CA's who have never sued, and some of these are quickly approaching 2 years since last payment.
There are too many variables to answer your question with any degree of certainty. So, take the approach that any and all creditors and CA's have the right to sue you. IF you are sued, and you can't deal with a suit, then file for BK.
