Detroit - Eastern District of Michigan Wait Time: 4-5hours

I just came from the US court in downtown Detroit. Staff came out and advised that there is a 4-5 hour average wait to be seen. I had to leave after about 10 minutes because I only put a hours time in the meter and I have to teach a class at 6pm.

Now this is on the 21st floor. She said this morning people were lined out the front door. I plan on returning tomorrow at 11am. Anyone coming with me?

I heard some staff chit chatting about people paying their way into the line...I'm not sure how they enforced that. Why can't we just get this stuff postmarked by tomorrow???

I wonder if anyone/everyone who is in line tomorrow will be accepted as 'on time'... What if it takes til hours after closing-as I imagine it will-to get them all in?

The staff member said that they were there up until 11pm last night finishing work.

"We will close the doors at 4PM. Everyone inside will get filed" -staff

She said that they were instructed that no employees can leave on Friday until everyone is taken care up (doors only open until 4pm). You would think that they would accept a postmark...

Isn't a postmark a legal means of time/date stamping? I am NOT looking forward to going there tomorrow morning...for sure I will bring a bottle of water and some snacks (so long as security lets me).

While we were signing our paper work on Sept 26th, we asked our lawyer, how far out the 341 are being scheduled due to crunch time/and last minute filers. He told us that most 341 are being scheduled in mid Nov, however we got in October.....the end...LOL
See our lawyers office is in downtown Chicago, however we live in the suburbs, so our 341 is scheduled at the courthouse out in our county, so they must not as busy....lol I knew there was a perk for living out in the "booneys"...LOL

Sure hope I'm wrong, but I still feel "we ain't seen nothing yet". With 35 million Americans making min payments they just have no clue what's ahead with the min's doubling to 4%. 2006 will be good business for credit counseling and possibly a record ch13 filers. Most of these folks have no clue which is why millions more didn't file under current law. At least the USA will "clean house" once and for all. Debts should be down, savings should be up...

As of the time I filed, N. GA wasn't backed up yet (30 days exactly between file & 341). They had alot of meeting rooms for 341's though!! I'm curious to know how long between filing & 341's now. With all the people I saw there yesterday, I'm sure they're backed up by now.

Staci -- You're in north GA? Cool! I'm in Ringgold. Our 341 was in Chattanooga, though.

Update 2/15/11 - Still totally debt-free except for the mortgage, which we're paying down quickly!

I'm not really in N. GA, I'm just NW of Atlanta, but I'm in the N. GA. district for the BK court.

I've heard of Ringgold-not quite sure where it is though! (I don't get out much these days, LOL!)

Just received my 341 notice for my ch.7

My mom also received one due to the fact that she is a lienholder on my 2000 4Runner. I filed Oct.6 and my date is November 17th in Tampa. Luckily, it's in the afternoon, 3 p.m. I'll just have to take the afternoon off at work. It's 45 miles from AMI so I want to make sure I know where I'm going as well as get there early. Started photocopying my papers and am bringing check stub copies, bank statement copies, copy of my car title as well as DL & SS copies. I don't want to have any hold ups. I want smooth sailing and want be taken seriously at this 5 minute rendevous. Our newspapers have just been swamped with bankruptcy stories...I know I could have waited to file after the deadline, but after doing all the reading about increased costs, a credit counseling class...why put off the inevaitable? I just wonder if there will be any more meetings after this 341 for me?

Wow...just got home. When I got there, it was hearing projections of AT LEAST 5 to 6 hours!

After waiting in line for about two hours the head judge walked outside (after lunch) and saw all of the people lined up outside of the bank and decided to streamline the process - just hand the clerk your paperwork, pay the money, they will issue you a carbon copied simple reciept form with "FILED" stamped on it. The real receipt and further information will arrive in a couple weeks. That simple maneuver changed wait times from 5-6 hours to like 30 minutes!!!

                      A judge with common sense!
