My auto insurance, one credit card and two checking accounts are all with the same company. Can they not renew my policy if I owe them money? About 8K from both checking and the credit card.

Most likely the auto insurance is not related to the credit card. But, if you want to shop around-no harm in that. I've heard that GEICO does not check credit but I know that Allstate does. (We tried to change to them recently, they offered better rates than what we have but DENIED.)Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

I completely agree. They should look at your driving record only. I was trying to figure out why they use a credit score and I came up with my own reasoning. Perhaps they view someone with a bad credit score as desperate. Perhaps they think a person with a bad credit score is more likely to purposely get into an accident and fake injuries just to get a settlement out of their insurance company. Perhaps they think a person with a bad credit score would be desperate enough to do this so they could pay back some of their creditors. Perhaps I don't know what I am talking about and I should just shut-up.Originally posted by JennGeico does, and so does Progressive, Im with Nationwide and I have GREAT rates! I think using a credit score to quote insurance is so stupid, but, they do whatever they can to make more cash.
