    Need Info on New Laws

    Can anyone direct me to good information on the web about the new laws and changes in filing procedures?

    Is there a manual or practice book out yet?

    I may have to file pro se and I am scared to death.

    Do a few google searches....and see what comes up. The majority of other BK related sites I know of are static sites.....which require you to pay for some sort of legal services. It may behoove you to consult with a few attorneys too.

      Thanks, I have been searching for info online and haven't found much that is useful in terms of the actual steps to take. I have been able to determine that I will first have to get credit counseling at my expense through an approved agency.

      The means test is confusing to me. I was planning to file individually since my husband's credit isn't too bad and most debt is in my name only. Plus, he is looking to buy the house we have been renting. We both were full-time employed until yesterday when he got laid off . . . so now I really don't know what to do. With regard to the means test, do you base the calculation on income the day you file or is it an average of prior months?

      From all I have read so far, I am just screwed.

        The new laws take your income averaged over the past 6 months. So, if your husband was just laid off-may be best to wait a little while before filing. Even if you file and he doesn't, I suspect your household income & expenses
        will play into the means test.

        Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
