Will things keep working for 5 years...

The answer is no... I haven't even been confirmed yet and my 3-4 year old laptop decided to have it's video board croak. You still get a a display but it's psychedelic (sp?). Fortunately, I have my 6-7 year old laptop as a backup.

Then coming home tonight, I noticed the lights in my kitchen flickering. My refirgerator making an odd noise and my washing machine beeping. Gremlins I thought. Then there was a strong electrical buring smell. Crud, my family is coming to visit this weekend, my refrigerator can't be dying on me, it's only 4 years old. So I go downstairs to find my computer to look up a repair service, and I hear a sizzling sound outside. I go out an look and their is smoke coming out of my A/C unit. So, it's not the fridge it's worse...it's the A/C!

I am hoping it's something not too expensive like the fan or capacitor. I hope nothing more! I only have a few hundred dollars in savings, so if it's serious I am screwed!

To make things worse, after I turned off the A/C breaker, there is another circuit that kept tripping. Turns out it's powering, my living room tv, my cable modem and router, and my home office all in the basement! - screwy wiring! But all this stuff has been plugged in for years so why now? I think the A/C causing surges affected my surge protectors and they kept causing the trip. It did blow out the strip connected to my cable modem and router. When I plugged in the living room tv, that power strip had a pop, but it worked. To be safe I plugged the living room tv into another outlet via an extention cord. I have to find the $ for new surge protectors too as once they are compromised, they should be replaced.

Hopefully, the A/C guy will be able to come out tomorrow and get things working for cheap before the crowd arrives! I probably should have an electrician come check out that odd circuit at some point too.

Fortunately, I have a separate A/C in the basement, so I'll be sleeping there tonight!

If nothing else you might look in a used second hand mag see if you can get an a/c cheap.

Otherwise might need to buy a fan and stick in a window, I know its not as good but it might help.
