I opened a new bank account the day a filed for bankruptcy because I had overdraft charges tied to my visa check card and I wanted to include those in the bankruptcy and was afraid that the bank would withhold that money. My question is, can the new bank deny me a atm/check card??? I do not want a debit/credit card(visa) just a card that I can withdrawl money from my account and pay for things like groceries without having to write a check.

Not likely that a new bank will deny you for an "ATM ONLY" card. Typically those are included upon request with a new account.Originally posted by mutziI opened a new bank account the day a filed for bankruptcy because I had overdraft charges tied to my visa check card and I wanted to include those in the bankruptcy and was afraid that the bank would withhold that money. If you are applying for an "ATM/Debit/Check" card, then many banks will pull a your credit report to determine if you qualify for such a card. They can deny an ATM/Debit/Check Card if your score is not satisfactory to their policy. However, I have never heard of any bank denying a basic ATM Only Card to new account holders.10/12/05 - Chapt. 7 Petition filed with court. (DONE)
