I'm at a loss to do. To begin, I have a debt from an unexpected loss of employment. I lost my job in DC in November of 2006. Made last car payment in December and remaining balance was $23,xxx. Moved in with my parents in PA, collected unemployment and shortly there after found a job in Hawaii the following April. I immediately setup a debt management program to settle up with my 3 delinquent cc's. Got current with my motorcycle creditor and sold shortly there after. I received a letter from a law office for an attempt to collect for my car in March of 2008. Responded to that letter, got that response letter in July. My girlfriend offered to purchase the car at current bluebook price. Called my creditor to attempt to purchase my car for 21k and asked to make payments for the remaining balance of 4.5k. Their response was that they needed the payment in full and to have all correspondence through the law office. She gave me a case number and contact info. Upon calling the law office, I was told that they were no longer handling my case and to contact the creditor. Called the creditor back, creditor states that law office was incorrect and would be notified shortly. Anyways, fast forward to now. My gf and I wanted to take advantage of the housing market and the 8k tax credit. My credit is in good not great shape but good enough for USDA loan with my gf, found a home and now in escrow. Perfect timing, the day I signed escrow papers, I received a letter from a local law office here in hawaii to collect a payment of $29,xxx. I know this is long winded, but any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Henry
