    US Bank

I just went to their website and appiled for a bank account with a debit card and I was approved instantly. It's nice that they did approve me for a check card too - I do a lot of stuff online and you know how hard it is to buy anything online without one. Plus I plan on traveling next year and you know its impossible to rent a car without some kind of credit card/debit card.

    Just a tip...

It's been a few years since I last rented a car, but I seem to remember that you needed a credit card. They would not allow debit cards. Not sure if this still holds true or not, but something to look into.

Some rental car agencies will accept a Visa/Mastercard Check Card. But they will place a "hold" on certain amount of money, until the car is returned.

Yeah I've rented with a debit card and Todd is right - they just hold like $500 until you've returned the car and they are sure its in good shape, which is fine with me. Id rather give out a loan for 500 than get another credit card again. JMO...

Be aware (I read fine print now) that if you overdraw the account, they are VERY nasty. They charge $7 a DAY for such and that's not including the overdraft fees.

On one hand, mean, but on the other (That you'd know this) you would hold off writing that "Questionable" check or making that "Risky" withdrawl.

So, both sides of the coin for you to ponder...

Yeah I just checked it out - in my area its not till the 4th day which is not a big deal. Im not going to be using my acct fulltime anyways - only when I need to use a debit card for something. But thanks for the advice!

No probs, but it's sure a good incentive to stay in the black
