My Bad Credit & Wifes credit.

i cant remember, but will post it again.

its no surprise, my credit sucks... but whats really bad is, my wife went to buy a car and got a shock, over $30,000 in bad credit (from my credit cards) was on her credit report, mind you, she is only a card user, no sig's, no cosigner, hell we never even given anyone her SS#, we have a letter stating she is not responsible... what?! my creditors are holding her already strained credit hostage...if they state she is not responsible, then why are they reporting?? Basicly they are holding her responsible!!! whats the deal? how did these creditors even get her SS#? I only gave permission for her to be card user only, we only gave them her name, no other personal information was given.... she cant even buy a loaf of bread on credit now, I had those credit cards before we were even married.

we are also wanting to buy a house, but hey, $30k bad credit, i see instant NO here!!!!

also, when I do file BK... will that bad credit from the credit cards become $0 instead of remaining $30k?? that is on her credit report?? in my opinion they should not have even down this, not only are they hold me responsible, they are hold her hostage as well, even though she is not financially liable.

    ideas? thoughts?

If she is an authorized user on the accounts (that is what I gathered from your post) then the accounts are not her responsibility. It is normal for AU accounts to report, though. They don't need your SS# to report. I don't understand it!

She can try disputing them with the bureaus as 'not mine'. Ideally, you would have removed her from AU status before defaulting. Chances are, if you're already behind the creditors will not agree to any account changes.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

no, she was never removed defaulting, I never thought for a second
that would harm her credit, after all we never given them her SS#
as they would need this if it was a co-signer credit cards but they are not, so we reallly never thought much of it, although, she is no longer a user of any cards, ive since removed her, im not sure by removing her name, will the credit cards update her off, or will that remain on her credit report?

Not sure. She should not have too much trouble disputing the accounts, as they really aren't hers.

On the bright side, once she gets them off, they won't have any residual impact on her credit score.

thats the problem, she was a card holder, so technically it was hers, so where is the dispute? if she says they are not mine or I did not know anything about that, after all, she did sign purchases, so she cant say they wasnt hers....

yea, her score before all this was around 600+ now its like bumping 499...

you can buy a house with past credit of several years with 7k, you can not buy a house with very recent bad credit of $30k, making it a total of $37k

damn, we found a really nice 4 bedroom townhome, they can hold it for 4 months, and we will surely try like hell to get this cleared up so we can get the home.

If she was an authorized user, she was not a responsible party. An AU has the perks of using the card, but is not liable for the bill. It doesn't make it her debt. Kind of like if you allow someone to move in w/ you. If you both move out after trashing the place, they can only come after you for the damages. Signing for the purchases does not assume responsibility for the account. You & her would have had to sign an agreement for her to become a responsible party.

but they are holding her resonsible just by reporting my bad credit
on her report. we know she is not liable for payback, they already said so, they said she was not responsible, but placing this action on her credit report would suggest otherwise, otherwsie why report a non-responsible or liable person?

On her credit, it should indicate 'authorized user'. By definition, 'authorized user' is not the person who makes payments, etc. Have they sent her bills?
