OK so I was bored and on Pacer...I know, I know bad combination. Anyways, I was looking up my in-law names, and low and behold I found out my pretentious brother-in-laws filed for BK. It was back from 2000, but still I was able to pull up his petition, and right there crystal clear was his COMPLETE address, and ENTIRE ss#

When I explored local cases (my district) the SS# wasn't in them. There SS declaration page was not on pacer, though BKfiler pointed out that it could be in there accidentally elsewhere. (Such as if one of the credit accounts used the SS# for account #.)
BK's are public record-though I think there should be protection at least on the SS#. And perhaps the street address also-but that would prevent the car lots from filling up our mailboxes...Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

I know what you mean. When I first registered with Pacer, I looked up a few people that I knew had filled for bankruptcy. One case, forgot what year, looked as if the documents were scanned in, sigatures and everthing, (didn't pay attention to SS#). I also looked at other states and/districts in my state to see how they varied. There is alot of difference.
I am sure that because of identity fraud, that they are putting safegards in place to prevent others from getting this info. But, I sincerely doubt that they will go back to previous filings and change them. On a more positive note - hey, who wants to steal our credit history?
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

Not so scary Sunshine regarding credit...But it's YOU they could steal..Not too hard to get drivers license and other tidbits to "Make a new life" and that's what some people (Like the USA enemies) would love to have....Keeps them "Hidden"...
I think we'd better start writing to someone to get "Tidbits" removed or there might be "Tidbits" of trouble here at home!
(Note: I just sent a email to [email protected] (Copying posting) and sent this along with a request to hide the sensitive stuff...I know it's hard, but stuff like this can make ours and others live possibly worse)Last edited by Genenco; 12-28-2005, 03:51 AM.

UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!!
Pacer replied to my email about this:
Federal cases are matters of public record. However, a decision by the Judicial Conference allows only the last four digits of an SSN to be displayed over the Internet. If documents were filed prior to December 2003 they may still be available online (as you report). For those, the court in which the case is filed should be contacted for information regarding the removal of data.
OK...Sooooo...Hope others are careful!

First of all Moron..I said nothing about keeping "financial shortcomings private". I don't care if my financial shortcomings are public, heck I know that the public and view it.Originally posted by LightningBankruptcies are a matter of public record. If you want to keep your financial shortcomings private, don't file for bankruptcy.
Second, My concern was that the entire address and entire SS# was public that is a issue of identity and security.....why don't YOU read the posts before you reply!!

See again you did not READ...you say they can be PURCHASED...sure anything/one can be bought for the right price.
I'm talking about on PACER. It is nearly free to access Pacer, and also to have so much info at someone's disposal.
Plus, as for calling names, after that fake leaving stunt you did for attention...everyone has the right to call you names...so YES you are a MORON!!!
I normaly ignore your posts because you are beneath me, but lately you are so fake and so annoying!

Oh geesh....you need an education! NOW who is name calling??Originally posted by LightningI now see why you have financial problems. "Nearly free" is not the same as "free".
You're an idiot.
I didn't say free, because PACER is not free. PLEASE read the posts before you reply with a stupid comment!!!
To access cases you must pay a very, very, very small fee. Hence the reason I said ......NEARLY FREE!!!
Geesh....

Originally posted by LightningPaying a very, very, very small fee is called "purchasing". Does your local community college offer a class in economics?
What's your college degree in?
As for my College degree...you produce your's and I will produce my degree
Oh hold on....that's right when you are faced with having to prove your case or provide proof....you run like a dog with your tail between your legs!
