Are you still living in a sea of "blue" roofs? We are, 18 month wait for a roof rightnow. The price on a roof in our TH has gone from 3700.00 pre to 7100.00 after. My Supervisors house went from 18,000.00 pre to 31,000.00 after (I think part tile).

I'm still going back and forth on taking the early out!

We haven't been hit yet by any of the hurricanes. Have had a number of them aimed for us (from Tampa Bay to Sarasota) but Anna Maria Island is supposed to be a vortex...the underneath is all coral rock...In 2004 the one that hit Punta Gorda and tore it to pieces was meant for us. In 1999, we had one headed right for us but it split in two and half of it went north of us to Clearwater and the other have went south to Venice.

Old history on AMI lore: an Indian princess made a promise and kept it (it goes real deep) and so AMI was promised never to be hit be a major hurricane...we'll see.

There's a LOT to be said about "ole wives tales" and "folk lore"......

Interesting how much of it is TRUE.............

      FATE????? COINCIDENTAL??? A HIGHER POWER????

We are going to Valledupar Colombia next year Amis (after summer, 2006, I think on the fiscal, overtime, year), no hurricanes!!!!!!!!!!!! Popped the news on her today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going in the middle of the season, God willing. It is a gift for our 25th for my wife which will be in three years. I am anxious to see the "topography". I have seen many photos of relatives, I know afew from Miami but want to meet the rest. A five bedroom, three bath home in Barranquilla runs $148,000.00. A good TH in a nice are can be had in Valledupar for around $35,000.00 US. Valledupar is in the northern area between B/quilla and Cartagena in the Sierra Nevadas and my father-in-law owns and rents out a bunch of homes there already. Like my wife says, "lots of mountains so you can ride with my cousins going up and down all day just like you do in Tennessee." I have also been warned by friends and as i have always gone out with latin (mainly Colombian) girls in my youth to be careful, "you are tall, American and they will assume you have money (hahaha)" and the women, that goes without saying, that will be a temptation that i will love. But i have a beautiful one at home, so no problem, believe me Colombian women age VERY shapely and VERY lovely.

My parents just bought a house in Costa Rica. On the beach... 3000 sq ft for 250k. Probably 100 ft walk from the beach. I mean it is the life there just walk to the beach in less than a minute lol.. It's beautiful ;). They are also looking in Brazil at one as well. Everything is cheap in those areas, some of them are getting more expensive as they are getting more americanized but as a whole it's amazing what you can get for such cheap prices. Oh and if you look the least bit american and the ladies know that they will be on you like white on rice. I'm half puerto rican and half white.. however the half white shows more haha but last time I was down there I felt like a king almost it was actually pretty amazing.

Yeah Graph one of our Supervisors dealt with that at retirement. He ended up buying in Orlando. he thought 80 grand would get you a palace in Costa Rica. The local neighborhood homes that are not as nice sell for more than that. None of the Countries are cheap. We had a house on Andros Island as a kid, it was cheap. One bedroom, no TV, no AC, no garage, just that cheap furniture and some kitchen stuff. It ain't like that now. But we got copies of the finance plans through my father-in-law. Mortgages are 15 years. I know alot of single older men who have retired in Costa Rica for obvious reasons, one had to buy a special pump!

I'll check out Valledupar while i am there, if she wants and i'm able i would buy something small with family to stay there and pay a little upkeep and rent.

You have to be about 100 feet from the beach because in Costa Rica (AND ITS A GREAT LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) the beaches are Public, for once the little guy wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is only fair, what right do us interlopers have to consume even the ocean breeze and enjoyment from common people? just watch out for squatters, CR they have just changed the squatter laws but there are still problems. Us older guys keep up with all this at work. With Hondurans, Mexicans, Nicaraguans, Cubans, Americans, Arabs, Trinidad Blacks, Trinidad Indians, Jamaicans all intending to high tale it out of Miami at retirement you tend to know alot of these goigs on.

My stepmother has always kept a little Aguardiente around, now i will try it where it was meant to be tried!

Amis, NIIIICE area you live in. Florida does have some great places, I'll never argue that. Just SoFla is getting to expensive to live in.

Amislander, I saw another post by you where you referred to your ex-husband. I did not take you for a femme. My apologies. If that is you in the photo in 2005 then your are quite lovely and if you are 43 then please tell us is it the lifestyle of AMI that makes you so beautiful?. If that is your Hubby/BF you make a very nice couple. Geez, between you and tinroofrusted I am glad to see that it ain't just big ugly folk like me filing!

Is it the brown/white photo? That's the one I was trying to get up on my avatar but couldn't figure it out.

                      I am 43....

                      That's my boyfriend.

I guess I stayed out of the sun and got stuck in the the closet with my coke...lol....that minimized the sun damage...no, but seriously, I believe in moderation.

AMI is a beautiful island...we'd be totally washed out!

Thank you, I appreciate the compliments!
