    Ok......

Today my BK is supposed to be discharged and I decided to check my credit profiles with the big 3. Man!! Looks pretty bad! Where does one start in the process of correcting info they provide? It would be so nice if they (the big 3) would actually talk to each other so that they all report the same info. It is very disturbing to me to have a score of 600 or less. Its a shame that in the end all we amount to is a number...Any suggestions from the gallery?

The big 3 are competitors. Does Walmart call Target to talk about working together? NO!

When you say it should have been discharged, do you mean that your 60 days have passed, or that you talked to the clerk and it was entered today? The discharge can happen at any point after the 60 day period ends. It can take a few days or a few weeks for the discharge to show on your reports.

As for the cleanup, keep notes, and don't get frustrated. Keep track of what you dispute, when, and with which bureau. Perhaps pick 4-5 accounts to start with, and work on other accounts after the first round of disputes ends.

When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. I read at a Credit Card forum website,......... They recommend making copies of your BK papers, write a letter to each of the CR agencies asking them to make the changes, and send along a copy of your BK papers. That would clean things up real quick.

We had a judgement reported against us once that was an error on the part of the CR agency. Some people sued us over the sale of a house. They failed to follow thru with the purchase, without cause, so we would not return their earnest money. They sued us to get the earnest money back. We eventually settled and split the money. The CR agency picked up the law suit claim registered in court and reported it as a Judgement on our CR's. We HAD to provide legal documents to prove what we said was true in order to get them to remove the derrogatory info.

But then I read in another post here to never send copies of your BK paperwork to the CR agencies. Why don't you want the CR agencies to have copies of your BK paperwork?? If we had to provide the legal docs before, wouldn't the BK paperwork make things easier??

Because you're giving them documentation that they don't need. It is not up to you to prove the info is wrong, but for them to verify that it is correct.

Its up to the creditors to report accurately, not up to you to produce private information to correct the problem....
Besides, the credit bureau will report what the creditor says till you dispute the item.... then the creditor has to correct it or have it removed from your credit report.

Your bankruptcy info is your private information - they have no use for it...............

I'm not sure why someone shouldn't send the docs to the reporting agency. It probably isn't necessary though since the reporting agencies can and will look it up on PACER. I'm sure they won't rely 100% on a document sent by someone disputing an item.

By disputing the info as inaccurate, you have a decent chance at getting the accounts removed, which is better for your score and for getting a mortgage or refi in the future.

Don't send them the discharge papers. Don't send them anymore info than necessary. Go to each individual creditor and remind them that they were notified of you filing bankruptcy and that they have an obligation to coreect the issue gove them a "deadline" and follow up with it.

What happened to us was more than several years ago. Funny thing is the judgement didn't show on our CR for years. We'd moved to another state, bought a house, vehicles, lived there 4 years or so. Moved on to another state, bought another house, lived there a couple years, and was trying to buy a car when the judgement popped out. Turned out the CR agency had only just opened an office in the town where all that had occurred. But they wouldn't simply take our word for it that the reporting was an error. They wanted proof. We had to send them Certified copies of the court docs before they would remove the judgement reporting.

I guess in our case, it wasn't a creditor reporting error that caused the problem. It was the CR agency itself and their inaccurate info from their own employees. The loan guy at the dealership was real nice about it. He said it was prolly an eager beaver newbie who'd run over to the court house, found the law suit claim, and just didn't do his/her homework. The investigator should have traced the law suit claim to it's conclusion but he/she didn't.

ok my two cents.....We subscribe to Privacymatters.com, It has been great so far. It was $1.00 for a trial (7days) then $14.95/month for both of us! Most every where else they charge you person. We can got on anytime of day and get our report., and it's the 3 in 1 report. They update the report when new corrections are made. We have been using them for about 4 weeks now, and have been very impressed. We can dispute Trans Union right online which has bee GREAT which is contrary to what people say about disputing online. I even called Trans, and had the asked about specfic accounts and he gave the me status of each account I asked about. Since we are looking at getting a car we are in a hurry to get everything cleaned up.
I did send Equifax and Experian letters, since I can see the info, just not dispute online with them.

Our credit looks horrible, we had and still have a couple of collections accounts on we are waiting to have removed. I just started and went one by one, typed up a big ol'e letter to the 2 agencies, and said what was wrong with each account, and how I wanted it resolved. It took me 2 hours to type up the 4 letters ...I sent them all certifed this morning...so we will sit back and wait to see what the results are.
