How to get the Forwarding Address

How to get the Forwarding Address

help! ok what ways do you know how to get the forwarding address of someone that owes my friend money.

we are filing a small claims suit and need to find him.

1-post office says they dont give it out.

2-i called a skip tracer said they can get it from the post office for $65 fee

3-post office says the court has to request it. privacy issues. (so how does the skip tracer get it? are they registered/special/court entitled?)

4-i was told i can sub-serve the defendant if someone opens the door regardless of if he still lives there. because he has to come to court to complain he doesnt live there and then case will be dismissed and commish will ask him on the spot what address he lives at now. then he is served automatically then from the court lol.

5-sending a 'do not forward + forwarding address reqeusted' letter post office said wont work. plus it hasnt come back yet either.

6-sending a 'service reqeusted' letter is being tried next. someone said that they might mail the item back with new address if its bulk mail stuff but probably not for general letter.

already looked in pacer. nothing. hes too recent in this state for any records to show up. i have his SS, DL, names, addresses, phones, etc but nothing showing up online at all even for a fee.

ok thats what i got so far. anybody got connections or ideas? i mostly want to know how the process servers / skip tracers get the documented forwarding address out of the post office.

Go search online at the local courthouse in the deeds and records section.... put in SS#, name, etc and see what it brings up.....
    Courthouse records are public records.....

    Maybe that will help.....

By the way, go ahead and file your claim with small claims court, if he's not served, does not respond, you will be granted a judgement automatically.... then you'll be in a position to "take a lien", ganish wages, etc as soon as you locate him....
      He can be found.....
If they can find the "MOB", they can find him..... a well known MOB member who has been on the run for years was just found 2 weeks ago about 30 minutes from me here in KY....
We had 1 of America's Most Wanted picked up right here in our county about 2 years ago....
The hills of KY can "hide" many sins..................

We stamp our outgoing mail "forwarding address requested" and we get it every time.... we are a business and they are given to us to help collect bad debts... Lots of people like to slip out without paying their utilities....

Don't you have a business name?? lol

        I do.............

thanks minny, thats a good idea.

i was told that if you did bulk mail then you could request it. maybe that is what they are getting at. business ok. otherwise no.

what happens to the actual letter? does it come back?

what is returned to you? some form with what on it?

          thanks

You get your original package back stamped address unkown.....then stuck to the package is the new address on a strip....
You will only get a new address if they have requested at the post office to have their mail forwarded...... and most do.... people like to keep up with their mail.... But they don't have to disclose it to the public....

ok so mail comes back, instead of forwarding it and just sending you a update letter back to you to change their address for the future.

that would be better but who cares about that right now lol

when and how do you pay the 50 cents?

what info comes with the updated address? like date of change?

minny, btw, i used pacer nation wide to check all court types and locations to search for him. found nothing.

as far as small claims court, you cant win the case unless he has been serverd. superior court is different a bit. you can post in newspaper and use last address provided and most often get away with it. not in small claims court though. we have asked several courts, legal aids, and clerks about it. all said exact same thing.

Let me check with my "collections Guru" - the repo man..... he may be able to suggest something I don't know.......

Do you know his total name and SS#??

Now this is not dishonest but it works......

Call the local utility company that he uses.... you have his name and SS#, right........

Use his name, ss# and tell them you are requesting a printout of "your (his) payment history that you are purchasing a home and need a copy of your payment history for the mortgage company... Have it sent to your office....a PO Box, or tell them that this is where you are getting your mail now....

If your lucky, you get some of his forwarded mail..........

When it comes you will have his address, etc....... but if he has moved on ya, won't work.....

There's many ways to get an address on someone......

Really all you need is the last known address for the court to serve him.....they can find him if he's not there anymore....

Maybe this will help, it's not illiegal or anything. Utitlities are public agencies so the information is public knowledge. But you do need his SS#....

Let me know how you do, and I'll also check with my friend....

he rents rooms so doesnt pay for utils yet. maybe in the future that will change.

the court wont 'find' him. we asked about what happens if he does not live at the exact address we ask them to serve by registered mail or by sheriff and they told us that if hes not there at the address then you lose out.

i just looked up what you were talking about. a real business can use

"Address", "Return", "Change", "Forwarding" and "Service Requested"

so what i want is "Return Service Requested". that will give me the new address info if there is some and will return the item back to us.

"Forwarding Service Requested" will get us the info back and forward the item as well.

the others sound silly to me but who cares right now.

and they charge the company back based on some rules and depending on package, etc. no biggie.

the rules seem to be here if they are still valid. i think they are.

At our office the Post Office sticks a little bill in our mail box telling us we owe them so much for "forwarding addresses"...... we throw the change back in the mailbox and the mailman picks it up..... no problem....

the strange thing is that im not seeing where only companies can do this. it doesnt say that. but when i went to 3 different post offices they all said no dice. cant do it. uggggg. even showed them the court law suit. love it when i have to use a side method instead of the straight forward method.
