I've been reading the threads about car buying after bankruptcy. We were discharged end of December and need another car. I posted questions earlier on buy here/pay here places and we've decided against that (thank you all for the advice). We are thinking about trying something like 1-800-barnone or one of the other places recommended in the car buying thread. I was just wondering if anyone here has tried them and what the experience was like. My husband's credit score through Experian is 678. Mine was low (579) when I pulled it because one of my creditors didn't report the bankruptcy and had me outstanding at over 180 days. I did have it investigated and cleared, but I haven't checked my score again, but will do it before the week is out. Our other problem is hubby had a car that wasn't running (bad transmission on a foreign car - no one wanted to fix it and we couldn't afford it anyway) but we kept up the payments on it over a year even though it didn't run. Right before we filed, he turned it back to the bank, and 5 days before we filed, they charged it off, so it's listed as a charge off on his credit. Will that affect us car loan wise? I was just wondering if anyone tried any of these online loan places and what the thoughts are on these places. Or, should we try a dealership instead. We have $1,000-$1,500 down and a trade worth probably about $450. Your thoughts/advice are always appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think your scores are all that low, considering. I would try a dealership first, they may very well have a good program at a fairly decent rate. I know we once got a loan through Americredit with scores lower than yours, the interest wasn't too bad either, and it was through a dealership. Just a thought.
