    Questions about chex systems

    Hi Everyone:

I use to have 2 checking accts. One was for my personal use (i.e. direct deposits of my paycheck) and the other one for my son's SSI direct deposit. Well the one that I used for my personal use was closed due to NSF. The bank did not give me a chance to pay the $120. The bank paid the $120 to bring my account to a positive but zero balance and then they referred the account to collections. This I believe happened within the last 3 months. I plan to list this bank acct when I file so that I don't have to pay the CA the $120. I still have the other acct for my son's direct deposit, but now since that's the only acct I have, my son's $$ and now that I am working - my checks from my job are being deposited in there too. I even had my tax refund put in there too. I so desperately want to open another account with maybe Wash. Mutual because when I file bk, it doesn't look good to have all that different $$ in the same acct. It becomes a little difficult to follow i.e. what $$ went to pay what. Can I open a new acct? How does chex systems work? Will that NSF bite me in the behind and prevent me from opening a new acct?

It might... Alot of banks subscribe to chexsystems. Is the account for your son at the same bank as the NSF?
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

I have dealt with Chexsystem....it is really up to the bank weather or not they want to report you. Maybe this thread can help you or answer any questions you have. Good luck.

The bank I had the NSF was with North Fork and the acct for my son is with Chase. I would like to try Washington Mutual because their offers are better.
