I have not heard that before. Are you sure it isn't credit reports that are needed. My attorney wanted a copy of Experien, Equifax, and Transunion credit reports just so she would make sure and put all creditors on the matrix. This wasn't a requirement of the bk court either, just something she wanted.
We too were asked for Credit Reports. People often forget a Creditor that they haven't paid or dealt with in a while. The attnys wanna be sure EVERYONE gets notified and EVERY debt gets discharged. Getting copies of your Credit Reports is a way for the attnys to be sure something doesn't come creeping out of the woodwork afterward.

The paralegal told us she'd cross reference the Credit Reports with the CC statements we gave her. She'll also look for old debts from years ago that we may have forgotten.
Also, you'll notice CC's have different addresses listed on the Credit Reports than anything you've seen on a bill or statement. The paralegal says our attny plans to list every address he can get for every Creditor so they can't play the, "We didn't get notified" game.
The paralegal told us to hang onto any letters or other correspondence we get from any of the Creditors and pass those along as well. If a different address pops up in those mailings, the attny will add that to the list of contacts as well.

so the bankruptcy courts or trustees do not need copies?
No, the reports are needed to make sure when discharge comes, it truley is a fresh start. No point in wasting the time, money and effort when you mis something. Remember, you cannot file for another 8 years.
