    Curious?

I was wanting to file bankruptcy before the new laws took effect....unfortunately I couldn't come up with the money by that point. I want to be able to file and have that completely wipe out all of my debts (about $20,000 or so) to where I never have to repay them. Can you still do that under the new laws? I don't have much money, don't have a degree or good job and don't have any assets unless you count my 19-year-old car that is worth maybe $400. lol. I really cannot afford to pay my bills and I don't know what to do. Plus I have a baby coming in December and I need to get my ducks in a row as much as I can so I can afford to raise this little one (I'll be a single mom). Anyways just wondered if I can still file and have it completely wipe away all my debts and I don't have to repay them and can just start from scratch? I really want to do something about my debt ASAP and clean up my credit and for once be financially stable. Thanks

Take a look at the various FAQs that are posted around this site. Some debts can be discharged in a Chapter 7 and some debts can't. You should find out <exactly> how much you owe and to whom....That would be an excellent first step....

As a general rule, most credit card debt can be discharged, so if you are in that boat, you are in good shape........best of luck to you..

      No It All is correct,

      1. Figure up what you actually are in debt for - all debts.

If you have student loans, taxes, they are not dischargable in BK.
If all of it is credit card debt, then it can be discharged.

      2. Consult with an attorney (free consultation) and see what options you can take and see if you qualify for a Chapter 7 (probably will)....

Start there, and see what your up against.....

      Keep us posted....
